This Videcipe is a two-in-one special! A mango matcha green tea smoothie, and a plain yogourt matcha smoothie.

Ingredients for mango smoothie:
• 1/2 cup of matcha green tea powder
• 1 diced mango
• 1/2 cup of ice cubes
• 1 tsp of honey
• 1 cup of milk

Ingredients for yogourt smoothie:
• 1/2 cup of matcha green tea powder
• 1/2 cup of ice cubes
• 1 tsp of honey
• 1 cup of plain, non-fat yogourt

• blender

1. Dice one fresh mango, or use frozen diced mangoes.

2. Blend 1/2 of matcha green tea powder with 1 cup of milk, diced mango and 1/2 cup of ice cubes.

3. Add in 1 tsp of honey and continue to blend. Serve once well mixed.

Here’s a vegan, guilt-free green smoothie recipe that you can make in under five minutes!

During my second semester at university, I had to deal with having little time to prepare a decent meal in the morning due to all my morning classes. Oftentimes, I ended up skipping breakfast altogether just because 7 AM classes are merciless and unforgiving. I had breakfast woes for the longest time until I decided to take up the smoothie route. Basic? Not necessarily if you get all your basic nutrients in the shortest time possible and in one go. Here’s one of the smoothie recipes I enjoyed making during my hellish semester. Enjoy!

– 2 cups + 3 tablespoons whole milk, separated
– 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
– 2/3 cup sugar
– 2 tablespoons corn syrup
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 2 tablespoons cornstarch
– 1/4 cup green tea matcha powder
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
– 2 cinnamon sticks


Combine 2 cups milk and cream in a 4-quart kettle. A large kettle is important so the mixture does not boil over!

Add the sugar, corn syrup and salt.

Place over medium-high to high heat and stir frequently so the mixture does not scorch.

While the mixture is heating, whisk the reserved 3 tablespoons milk and cornstarch until dissolved (this creates a cornstarch slurry).

Bring the milk mixture to a boil. It seems wrong to boil the milk but this works! Let the mixture boil well, stirring constantly for a few minutes.

After 2-3 minutes, remove from heat and whisk in the cornstarch slurry.

Once mixed in, place back on medium heat until the mixture just begin to bubble. This lets you know the cornstarch has been activated.

Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and matcha powder. Drop in the cinnamon stick and let steep. If you like the cinnamon flavor, keep them in overnight. If not, remove after one hour.

Chill the ice cream base fully before freezing.

When ready to freeze, remove from refrigerator and follow the instructions on your maker. My KitchenAid attachment takes about 25 minutes.

At this point, the ice cream is a soft serve consistency. Place in a deep freeze to chill fully.

How To Make Matcha Tea
The Wild Method

Ratio used: 1.5g matcha (~1/2 tsp) to 4 ounce water (113g)


Premium matcha meant for drinking – Wild Matcha
Bamboo Whisk or Handheld frother
TSP or matcha chashaku ladle
6 ounces 165° filtered water
Optional: small wire sieve

1. Pour 2 ounces hot water into your bowl to preheat for a minute

2. Discard water and wipe dry

3. Place bowl on scale and tare

4. Add 1.5g matcha – about 1 and a half chashaku ladle scoops

4a. Choose: Sift matcha through sieve into bowl or take bamboo whisk or frother and gently flatten out the matcha. You want to remove clumps.

5. Pour 1 ounce (28g) cold water over matcha (This helps protect the matcha from the hot water in step 7)

6. Use your whisk in a circular motion to make a thick paste

7. After all matcha is incorporated, add 3 ounces of 165° water

8. If using bamboo whisk: whisk matcha using a "W" and "M" path up and down utilizing your wrist. If using a electric frother: place it at the bottom of the bowl and start with short pulses to make sure you don't spill any precious matcha.

9. Whisk until frothy and you have a nice white crema with small bubbles

10. It is now ready to drink! You can stir in some honey or preferred sweetener or add steamed milk for a matcha latte. You can also add more water to increase the yield (it will dilute) or can finish with cream or frothed milk.
